Our Favourite Ways to Explore
the Great Outdoors
Many of our guests spend a whole week out walking as there are so many walks to enjoy from the cottage, from climbing the 10 Munroes nearby to gentle riverside walks. From the cottage it is possible to take the Coulin pass over to the Torridon mountain range which is spectacular and there are plenty of coastal walks locally. If walking isn't your thing there are many other activities to do and places to visit, a few of our favourites are listed below.
Places to Visit
Wester Ross is full of places to explore with beautiful scenery around every corner. Here are just a few of of our favourite places!

Applecross
Peninsula
A quaint little village with views over to Raasay and Skye with Applecross Sands just around the corner.

Beautiful, well-kept paths and a suspension bridge over the gorge makes for an excellent day out with the family.
There is also a cafe and nature centre too.

Glenelg is steeped in history with much to explore. Visit the Iron Age brochs, take in the scenery or go for a dip.
Once you have seen the sites take a short ride over to Skye on the last manual turntable ferry in the world!

There are many good day trips over to Skye, visiting Portree, walk to the fairy pools or up The Quiraing, taking a boat trip to Loch Coruisk from Elgol, and more.

Activities
There are all sorts of activities in the local area, here are a few of our
favourite pastimes!

Taking a short drive to Attadale Gardens is well worth a visit if you are staying between
April-October. Or further a field is Inverewe Garden, a world famous botanical oasis founded in 1862.

Hiking/Munro Bagging
There's a vast array of hiking trails and munros to explore, and you can start right from the doorstep. Or if you would like to travel further afield you could visit the Cuillins on Skye, or head over to Gairloch.

Sea kayaking is a great way to see the scenery and wildlife from a different perspective.
A few places we recommend with full rental and instruction are Sea Kayak Plockton, Shieldaig Outdoors and Torridon Outdoors.

Gentle Walks
There are plenty of riverside walks in the local area including a favourite of ours, the teapot circuit. Or take a drive to the coast where you can walk with stunning views over to Skye and Raasay.

Our cottages are situated at the bottom of a national mountain biking trail which is part of the MBR magazine's Best of British Singletrack series!

The superb dark skies are one of the things that make the Highlands so special. With large areas completely free from local light pollution, it's a fantastic place to start your stargazing adventure.

There are lots of lochs to swim in around the area, with Loch Maree being a particular favourite, there are even pools that form along the River Lair.
